Engagement is not a box to be ticked. It is about real conversations, people being heard, and lived experience shaping decisions in meaningful ways. We help organisations move away from one-off consultation towards engagement that builds trust, insight and shared ownership over time.
Our work helps move engagement away from one-off activity and towards ongoing relationships, where professional expertise and lived experience are valued together in shaping decisions that matter.
We believe engagement works best when it is open, respectful and genuine. It is not a stage in a process or a box to be ticked, but a way of working that builds trust and insight.
Understanding who stakeholders are, how they experience the system and where influence sits
Designing clear, proportionate approaches to engagement
Facilitating conversations that bring staff, partners and communities together in meaningful ways
Building confidence and capability so people can hold open, constructive and sometimes difficult conversations
How do we do it?
We work alongside organisations to design and embed approaches that make engagement a valued part of everyday practice. Our support combines facilitation, coaching and advisory input, grounded in practical experience of engagement in complex public and community settings.
Why do we do it?
Engagement is often treated as a task to complete rather than a relationship to build. Questions are asked, responses gathered and decisions made elsewhere. Over time, this can leave people feeling unheard and organisations frustrated that engagement is not delivering the insight or confidence they hoped for.
When engagement is working well, it feels different. Conversations are open and curious. People see how their knowledge, experience and perspectives influence thinking. Trust grows because engagement is part of how decisions are shaped.
ThinkTeam works with organisations to understand where engagement is falling short and what needs to change. We support a shift away from call and response towards genuine dialogue, where stakeholders and communities are active partners in the work.
Where have we done it?
ThinkTeam has led and supported stakeholder and community engagement across public services, partnerships and community based programmes in Wales and beyond.
Our work includes:
Leading the development of the National Principles for Public Consultation and Engagement handbook and resources for Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA). ThinkTeam designed and delivered extensive engagement with practitioners and communities, producing practical guidance, tools and resources that strengthened engagement practice across Wales.
Designing and leading a Forestry Planning co-production and community engagement pilot for Natural Resources Wales. This work transformed how communities were engaged in significant land management decisions, built confidence and capability among staff, and directly informed organisational standards for stakeholder and community engagement.
Leading large scale, multi-stakeholder collaboration as part of the Gwent Well-being Assessment for the Gwent Public Services Board, bringing together a wide range of organisations, sectors and expertise to collaboratively produce the environmental well-being assessment.
